The alchemist 연금술사 를 읽고

The alchemist  - Paulo Coelho

No one was interested in it, when the alchemist was published about 30 yrs ago in Brazil.

It took a long time to become a bestseller.

He wanted to write about his soul, treasure.

He knows his treasure was his capacity to write.

He is the main character, Santiago, the shepherd boy in search of treasure in the book.

Even you don't understand his religion or politics, you can understand his story.

 

The boy, Santiago's parents wanted him to be a priest.

So he had studied latin, spanish and theology.

But his dream was to travel to know the world.

He had summoned up the courage to tell his father he wanted to travel.

But they can't afford to travel so he decided to be a shepherd.

 

He had a dream about traveling to the fields of Spain.

So he met with a king, talked about his recurrent same dream with a gypsy woman , sold crystal and crossed the desert.

And because of the war between the tribes, he went to the well seeking the alchemist.

He saw the Englishman at his experiments, and the camel driver who was a teacher without knowing it.

 

Everything  you need to know is you could learn through your action.

Then why other alchemists tried to make gold and failed?

Because they only think about gold.

they never could find the secret.

 

Listen to your heart.

Heart rarely say about the dreams because people don't want to go in search of them.

We speak of it only to children.

 

There had been times when his heart spent hours telling its sadness 

and at other times it became so emotional over the desert sunrise

that the boy had to hide his tears. ( p. 132 )

 

There was that desert he had traveled for many months.

Despite  all that time , he only knew a small of it.

But he could find an Englishman, caravans, tribal wars and an oasis with endless row of date palm trees and 300 wells.

Each does its function as a unique being.

 

Finally he could reach to his dream destination  , Egypt pyramids.

and now he is again in the ruined , small church with shovel to dig the treasure where he used to be there with his flock.

He promised himself that he will go back to the gypsy woman to pay his one -tenth of his treasure.

Because she helped him interpret his dream.

He knows everything in life has its price.

 

 

주인공 소년 산티아고는 꿈을 찾아 스페인 길 을 따라 떠난다.

부모님은 그가 신부가 되기를 원했지만 그에게는 세상을 알기 위해 길을 나서는 것이 그 어떤 것 보다도 중요했다.

넉넉지 않은 형편으로 양치기 소년이 되어 그의 꿈을 찾아 나선다.

그 여정속에서 많은 경험을 하고 사람들을 만나며 세상에 대해서 알아나간다.

도중에 연금술사를 만나며 인생의 진리를 알게 된다.

"당신의 마음의 소리에 귀 기울여라"

마침내 그의 꿈이었던 이집트  피라미드에 도착한다.

숨겨져 있던 보물이 있는 장소도 발견한다.

그곳은 다름 아닌 처음 길을 떠날 때 양 떼들과 묶었던 낡고 허물어진 교회 안이었다.

결국은 힘든 시간을 겪고 꿈을 이루는 행복한 결말로 끝난다.

 

소년은 스페인 안달루치아에서 2년 동안 양치기를 하며 많은 걸 배운다.

아프리카 Tangier라는 항구도시에 도착한 후 바에서 만난 낯선 이에게 가진돈을 모두 잃게 되기도 한다.

내가 산티아고라고 생각하며 말을 타고 낙타를 타고 caravan (이동식 주택 차량 )을 타고 일행들과 사하라 사막을 걷는 상상을 해보았다 

가는 길에 사막에서 부족들 간에 전쟁이라도 생기면 가던 길을 멈추고 오아시스라는 완충지 역할을 하는 곳에 몸을 피하고 있어야 한다.

외롭고 무섭고 자주 환경이 바뀌어 안전하지 않은 곳이다.

하늘에 많은 별도 해도 달도 보이지만 밤이 되면 너무나 고요하고 적막해지는 곳, 그러나 걷다 보면 힘들 때 나타나는 오아시스, 우물, 펼쳐진 대추야자나무가 힘을 준다.

정말로 간절히 원하고 그것을 실행에 옮기기 위해 노력한다면  온우주가 내편이 되어 도와준다고 연금술사는 산티아고에게 알려준다.

내가 마치 주인공과 함께 여행을 하고 온 기분이었다.

기회가 된다면 스페인 여행을 꼭 가보고 싶고 그의 또 다른 책 "순례자"도 읽어보고 싶어 졌다.
